Archives

The Woman’s Century Club’s archive contains significant historical material including :  minutes and scrapbooks ranging in date from 1893 through 2012, early writings of important women residents of King County such as Carrie Chapman Catt (well-known suffragist), Dr. Sarah Kendall (early woman physician), Julia E. Kennedy (Seattle’s first woman superintendent of schools), and Celeste Langley Slauson (director of the Seattle Conservatory of Arts), correspondence from the 1920s to the present reflecting the WCC’s many activities including legislative work, support of the Red Cross, gardening, safe driving initiatives; artists’ works, and musical programs; and documents from important figures like as Mayor Bertha Knight Landes and suffragist Susan B. Anthony, and about events such as Amelia Earhart’s visit to Seattle.  With help from a grant provided by 4Culture, the WCC obtained stable housing for the archives, materials in the archives were processed and inventoried, and a guide to the contents of the archives created.

In 2015-16 the WCC archives were donated to the Special Collections Division at the University of Washington Libraries.  To see what materials are at the UW Libraries click here  Woman’s Century Club records, 1891-2015.  Several of the documents from the archives have been transcribed or photographed and these items may be found by clicking on the History tab, near the top of this page.
